A magnitude 5.9 earthquake jolted off Sumatra island of Indonesia on Wednesday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported in Jakarta.
The quake struck at 21: 01 p.m. Jakarta time (1401 GMT) with epicenter at 67 km northwest of Gunungsitoli of North Sumatra and with the depth of 15 km under sea bed, Andri Sembiring, an official of the agency, told Xinhua by phone.
Indonesia is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone vulnerable to seismic and volcanic activities.
