Completing 101 days of inactivity with Corinthians on Wednesday, star striker Ronaldo declared that he is considering whether or not to retire at the end of the season.
Plagued with injuries and visibly overweight, Ronaldo may end his career earlier than planned.
The player's most recent injury occurred on May 8 in the first round of the 2010 Brazilian Championship. He hopes to be able to return to the field on August 29 against Vitoria in the 16th round of the tournament.
"I am pain free, but I am saddened. I have lived my whole life on the soccer field and the end of my career is coming close. I plan on making a big sacrifice in order to finish the year strong. Depending on how the end of the season turns out, I will make a decision to retire or continue," said Ronaldo.
Ronaldo's current contract with Corinthians expires in December 2011. However, the frustration of injuries and the pressure from fans and media have weighed in heavily on the player, who said his successive injuries led to him being overweight and the problems of making a quick recovery.
