University of Oxford |
Founded in 1167, the University of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world, and has been one of the world's most influential and international universities for centuries. It is renowned globally for its research, teaching and learning.
Oxford has more world-leading academics and a higher research income than any other U.K. university and conducts research across all disciplines, both in Oxford and through research stations and projects around the world, particularly in Asia and Africa.
Students from more than 140 countries and regions make up a full-time student population of over 20,000. Over a third comes from outside the U.K. Oxford educates undergraduate students in the tutorial system, in which students meet at least weekly with leading academics on a two-to-one basis to discuss and debate their work.
The collegiate system, with its 38 colleges, is at the heart of Oxford's success, giving students and academics the benefits of belonging both to a large, internationally-renowned institution and to a small, interdisciplinary academic community. Students and scholars have access to unrivalled academic resources, including the largest university library system in the U.K. and internationally important museum collections.
