Founded in 1764 as the General Academy of Painting, Sculpture, Copperplate Engraving and Architecture, Germany's Dresden Academy of Fine Arts is one of Europe's oldest art academies. In 1950, it merged with the State Academy of Applied Arts, the successor of the Royal Saxon School of Applied Arts which was founded in 1875-76. Each year, it attracts nearly 650 new students in pursuit of art-related majors.
