The death toll in a minibus-truck collision in north Shanxi Province rose to seven on Tuesday after another teenager died in the hospital, local authorities said.
Two of the five injured remain in critical condition in the hospital.
All of the victims are junior high students, as the minibus was taking them to school when it was rear-ended by a truck at about 6:50 a.m.Monday at a highway section in Jiexiu City.
Police said the minivan with seven passenger seats had 12 people on board. It was taking the students from Lengquan Village to a middle school in town a dozen kilometers away.
Four boys sitting in the back of the van died at the scene.
Police have the truck's owner in custody but are still looking for the driver who fled the scene.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
