Shanghai Science Museum Opens
The 1.75-billion-yuan (US$ 181.45 million), glass-and-steel Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, the largest of its kind in Asia, opened to the public yesterday to rave reviews: "This is one of the best scientific museums in the world," said Henry Levine, the American Consul General in Shanghai, "on a par with or even surpassing the great places in the US like the renowned Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia." Levine was among the visitors at the opening.
President Promises Central Government Aid for Hong Kong
Chinese President Jiang Zemin Wednesday told Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, that the Chinese central government will take a number of measures to help Hong Kong overcome its current economic difficulties.
